Invites applications for the position of
Full Time Internal Communication Specialist 
Monday-Friday, Dayshift

Under the supervision of the Corporate Communications Supervisor, the Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for increasing the capacity and modernization of internal communications processes and platforms. In addition, the Internal Communications Specialist will ensure professional, accountable, and transparent communication with members of the GSPS through a variety of innovative and inclusive forms including but not limited to written, audio and visual. The Internal Communications Specialist will uphold and promote the corporate branding and communication of the Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities: 

Internal Communications 

  • Initiate, promote and encourage effective internal communications strategies and practices at all levels of the organization.
  • Assist in the development of corporate efficiencies, support systems, controls, directives, and improvements to enhance internal communication and to ensure communication across the Service is aligned and effective.
  • Develops strategies to improve internal communication through audio, visual and written formats.
  • Assists with the development of communication procedures including event planning, information sharing and etiquette. 
  • Assist in the creation, planning, development, layout and production of internal communication strategies including but not limited to newsletters, blogs, vlogs, the intranet and the Wellness Committee's secured site.
  • Develops, designs and expands content the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s intranet. 
  • Supports the Culture Shift Team with the communication of decisions, updates and reports.
  • Ensures consistent corporate messaging through official communication channels.

Business and Strategic Communications Planning

  • Participate in the development and implementation of service wide strategic communications planning.
  • Assess communications programs, report findings and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and implement communications strategies and contribute to marketing strategies that promote Our Shared Commitment to Community Safety and Well-being while building on collaborative partnerships.

Media Relations

  • Assist with proactive and reactive media relations.
  • Respond to media inquiries when applicable.
  • Coordinate internal subject matter experts to act as the service’s spokesperson when required.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of media and new conferences. 

Event Planning

  • Supports corporate events.
  • Promotes corporate events internally.
  • Assists with the coordination of corporate events through researching of venues, cost, and resource requirements. 
  • Works with committees in event planning.

Corporate Branding and Marketing

  • Ensure consistency of branding and corporate messaging on all communications.
  • Developing new and innovative communications strategies that enhance the internal culture building trust and transparency. 
  • Maintain the Service’s intranet content.
  • Develop and prepare promotional materials for the Greater Sudbury Police Service including brochures, newsletters, and information packages.  
  • Coordinate the production of communication materials to ensure that a standardized and consistent image and identity is used to reinforce the Greater Sudbury Police Service’s profile.

Qualifications:

  • Community College Diploma in educational media, media technology management or media/broadcast operations or related field.
  • More than one year and up to two years of previous experience.
  • Experience with both iOS and Windows computer systems.
  • Demonstrated pertinent work experience with additional specialized courses in communications, marketing, and social media.
  • Experience developing, implementing, delivering, and evaluating communication plans and materials.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications platforms.
  • Practical knowledge or experience public speaking and making presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct, train others.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and routines required through related experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of marketing concepts and strategies
  • Demonstrated creative and innovative focus on service delivery and a commitment to continuous improvement of customer service.
  • Demonstrated discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency on computer and various office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Desktop Publishing, Website Management, Social Networking programs and ability to learn new software tools.
  • Working knowledge of graphic design software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Experience with audio/visual equipment.

Assets:

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, social media applications, marketing, public relations, or equivalent. 
  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.

  • Superior writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to relate courteously with members of the service, the public, and outside agencies. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Ability to maintain accuracy with a large volume of work.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and be able to produce accurate work while complying with procedures.

Salary:
Wage: $29.40-$36.85 per hour
