Full Time Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategist 
Monday-Friday, Dayshift

The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategist is responsible for implementing the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS) equity, diversity, and inclusion strategy. The EDI strategist will work with internal units and committees to support how we address systemic barriers within GSPS. The EDI strategist will continue to maintain and look for opportunities to develop external relationships with diverse communities in Greater Sudbury. Through their work with internal units and committees and the established relationships with diverse communities, the EDI strategist will coordinate initiatives, programs, and educational opportunities for GSPS to improve operations and service delivery. The strategist will support the coordination and attend various internal committees.

Strategically incorporate EDI

  • Develop, maintain, and support the Greater Sudbury Police Service Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Strategy.
  • Support the development and delivery of various data gathering tools to develop strategic priorities of EDI within GSPS.
  • Work with various internal units and committees to address systemic barriers in various areas including environmental, societal, and organizational.
  • To review and provide an EDI lens to policy and procedure to ensure that best practices are being implemented.
  • Seek out diverse perspectives when reviewing policy and procedure that affect diverse communities.

Community Liaison

  • Participate, support, and coordinate committees including but not limited to Diversity Advisor Committee (DAC) Authentic Inclusion and Anti-Racism Reform working groups. 
  • In collaboration with community agencies, organize and coordinate new programs that address the needs of the multiracial, multicultural, 2SLGBTQ+ members of the community. 
  • Attend community events, meetings, workshops, and seminars designed to enhance the relationship between the police and the diverse communities. 
  • Ensure community agencies are supported for funding applications that align with our EDI Strategy.  
  • Support, coordinate and/or implement community events that align with the EDI Strategy.
  • Assist community agencies in organizing and coordinating programs to promote positive police interactions with community members of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Facilitate presentations for various groups to build and enhance positive relationships and understanding of Greater Sudbury Police Service as required.

Administrative Duties

  • Prepare reports to capture the progress of the EDI Strategy.
  • Create and maintain administrative and statistical reports for senior management, including performance measurements to capture proactive work undertaken within the diverse communities.
  • Submit professional development opportunities such as conferences, courses and seminars that increase knowledge on the best practices in EDI for budgetary considerations.
  • Assist committees with administrative coordination, minutes, and agendas.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a college diploma in a related discipline such as law, human rights and equity, humanities, social sciences.
  • Experience with public speaking Public Speaking/Presentations.
  • More than two years of relevant work experience in social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, working with groups who are racialized/visible minority, Indigenous and 2SLGBTQ+.
  • Minimum of a “G” Class Drive Licence.
  • Proven success working collaboratively with internal and external teams.
  • Commitment to EDI and a strong interest in planning.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, observation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated continued professional education in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
  • Knowledge of community mobilization, social determinants of health, and the challenges facing equity seeking groups from an employment and service delivery perspective.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting marginalized groups and working with diverse communities in an anti-oppressive/anti-racism, culturally relevant and responsive manner.

Assets

  • Bilingualism (English/French).
  • Instructional techniques and effective presentation courses.
  • Established community relationship with diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as: Ontario Human Rights Code, Anti-Racism Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontario with Disabilities Act, Police Services Act an asset. 
  • Knowledge of current trends and emerging issues in policing related to human rights issues from an internal / employment and external / service delivery perspective, including understanding of systemic race based and gender-based discrimination and the importance of intersectionality.
  • Awareness of the Greater Sudbury multicultural and diverse communities.
  • Experience working with community groups/members.

  • Ability to consider and appreciate views other than their own
  • Ability to interact with individuals demonstrating high level of tact and diplomacy for different situations,
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in using word processing equipment and related software to an accomplished level, e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  
  • Detail oriented and resourceful.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy with a large volume of work with ability to work flexible hours.

Wage: $31.45 - $39.42 per hour
